Archival or Custodial History
Harry Diack studied successfully for the Diploma in Quantity Surveying at the Dundee College of Technology (at that time part of the Dundee Institute of Art and Technology) from 1971-1975.
This qualification was highly regarded nationally, and gave dispensations to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Final Test of Professional Competence which meant students could sit the Test earlier than the three years specified.
The course covered many subjects including but not limited to Quantities (Measurement), Land Surveying, Professional Practice, Law, Structures, Public Health etc. It went on to be offered as a BSc degree course that ran into the 21st century.
During the course he received and retained all the ‘worked’ examples, including drawings, of how Quantities were calculated for different aspects of building. He retained these after qualifying, and passed them, along with his course textbooks, to Abertay University Archives on his retirement in 2021.
