The worked examples are split into course years, with each providing a drawing for an aspect of a building, and a corresponding set of specifications and quantities. They are typed, in the majority of cases, however some are hand written, and include all calculations to demonstrate how quantities were calculated for inclusion in Bills of Quantities for issue to Contractors for tendering purposes and preparation of Final Accounts.

Minutes of the main management committee of the institution. Volumes contain minutes of the main committee as well as those for occasional sub-committees, such as the Weaving Committee in 1889 (dealing with the establishment of textiles courses).

These contain records of individual students enrolling at the institution. The information recorded varies, but they usually contain names of students and courses taken. Other information recorded can include dates of birth or age at enrolment, address, last school attended, highest level of educational attainment before enrolment, occupation, results of courses taken, and prizes awarded.

Correspondence with Scotch Education Department concerning the College's roles and functions as a Central Institution.

Professional standards, guidance, standard forms etc used by Harry Diack in his studies and early career.

Photographs taken mostly for publicity purposes. They are mainly of Institute buildings and their rooms, or those associated with providing classes for the institute (e.g. the High School of Dundee).

Included are photographs of art rooms, weaving and spinning sheds, and the construction of the premises on Bell Street, as well as an exhibit of Technical College machinery c. 1911, and John S. Lumsden (Principal from 1902-1929)

The main part of the series consists of plans and specifications for the new accommodation on Bell Street, but photocopies of layout plans for the previous building in Smalls Wynd are also included. The origin of the photocopies is unclear, but they may have been acquired from University of Dundee Archives.
